May 2006–“The Sentinel”

Chief Horner provided to the Columbus Dispatch (See Below CLICK) an establishment, “The Silver Moon,” which he claims was and is the root cause of all the evils of Portsmouth. Well, this business has been closed for nearly a year and our drug and crime problems still exist. So, Chief my suggestion to you is to do the job you were hired to execute and work with accurate and factual information associated with the core problems that exist in our community and refrain from making unreasonable and inaccurate excuses accompanied by your bogus rationalizations! Using “The Silver Moon” as the environment that creates the source of our problems in Portsmouth is an excuse and a poor one at that. The Mayor and the Chief are choosing to deliberately ignore the real issues and cover-up the real dilemmas associated with the Drug and Crime evils of Portsmouth.

I have to ask myself WHY? Why are excuses being invented instead of resolutions to our problems being planned out by these two public officials????

What is the friendship between the Chief of Police, the Mayor, and the Crime and Drugs Lords of Portsmouth?????????????

The Shawnee Sentinel would like to offer round of applause and a big heartfelt “Congratulations” to Mayor Jim Kalb, Chief of Police Charles Horner, City Council, and Chamber of Commerce Chairperson Bob Huff for the great honor this article bestoys on all of the hard work they have put into making Portsmouth what it is today.

Special thanks also go out to Jennifer Hanlon and Main Street. Portsmouth is on the MAP! We’re not just Main Street anymore, we’re the PIPELINE!

How many other cities in Ohio have the bragging rights to call themselves “the United Nations for gang members.” We have gotten right where L.A. went so wrong in the 1990s. Remember when Rodney King asked, “Why can’t we all just get along?” Well, after a little bit of Portsmouth hospitality, the Crips, the Bloods, and the Folks have come to roost here permanently, it seems, and welcomed by Mayor Kalb as the signs of the renewal of southern Ohio cottage industry. Could this have been Kalb’s secret to balancing the budget all along? No need for renters fee now, we’ll just charge a toll.

Could it be that the gangs heard all about the clean toilets at the new SOGP Welcome Center? By golly, that Bob Huff, swings a mean Johnny mop.
